Relationships as a Priority

With over 7.5 literal days in a van, three 24 foot trucks packed full of production and resource gear, and one summer to change the lives of thousands of students, a team of 26 unique and well equipped staff set out to “Help teenagers know God through His Word.” My role on the team as the audio engineer seemed simple enough —basically make stuff loud. I have learned so much about audio like how to time align and tune a line array system. I have learned tips and tricks on eq and compression, on mic placement and vocal delays, but in the grand scheme of things none of this matters. One of the most important lessons that I have been learning since last semester is that relationships are what matter most.

We can go on throughout life and accomplish so much, such as having the best mix for an artist like Coldplay, or Muse, but what good would that accomplishment be if you could never share it with anybody because you did not have a relationship with anyone? We can make a difference in other people’s live and maybe even our lives will be impacted by the relationships that we take time to build and maintain. My outlook on production, and live audio has changed drastically since last year. Instead of my priority being to become the best engineer possible, I know try to keep it a priority to build relationships through live audio production.

After spending several days with David Walker and his band they have really helped me see how relationships are so important in ministry and in the production world. They have led by example and are constantly encouraging. By making relationships a priority I know that we as a production crew were able to more effectively work with and serve with David Walker. Through serving with guys like David, I see how God can use our relationships with others to create a team that reveals God’s ultimate and personal relationship in our lives. This is what life is really about.

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
